Hill Leader Job Description: Selected by the Patrol Representative and approved by the Patrol Director to serve as Hill Leader and assigned in advance by the Scheduler. If unable to work a scheduled day, must contact the Patrol Representative (Dan Lynch, 719-481-4085) or the Patrol Director (Gerry Noe, 719-486-2277) to arrange for a substitute. Is responsible for the smooth operation of the patrol during that day and must see that all Area Management Directives are carried out.

  1. Duties of the Hill Leader are:
    1. Report to the Patrol Director or his designee at 7:50AM for instructions regarding hill maintenance, race coverage, trail closing, etc.
    2. Assign someone to help with sign-on paperwork (1st Aid Room and top time assignments), comps, opening sweep assignments.
    3. Conduct a meeting with the Patrol members at 8:00AM. Relay Patrol Director's instructions, see that comps are distributed, assign opening sweep runs and record numbers on preliminary sign-up sheet.
    4. Insure that Dispatcher is at Patrol HQ and radios signed-on by 8:15AM.
    5. Insure that all Patrollers with opening sweep assignments are at the bottom of the double by 8:20AM.
    6. Assure that all assignments are completed and that all brass tags are on PHQ board.
    7. Make all decisions that may be needed regarding the operation of the Patrol during the day.
    8. Provide support and backup to dispatch in managing resources to maintain adequate coverage of the mountain.
    9. Assign and record closing sweep assignments. Conduct beginning and ending headcounts of Patrollers.
    10. Make sure all paperwork is completed and properly turned in to Patrol Director (except as noted below).
      1. Radio Log
      2. Daily Schedule
      3. Incident Reports
      4. Accident Investigation Reports
      5. Missing Person Reports
      6. Preliminary sign-up sheet (Scheduler's envelope in left hand drawer)
  2. Insure that all Patrollers are accounted for at the end of the day and that all brass tags are in place on the board in the first aid room.
  3. Make sure that all radios have been returned and are properly placed in chargers.
