The primary duty
of the Ski Patroller is to provide safety, first aid and rescue services
for the patrons of Ski Cooper.
All first aid services shall be provided in a manner consistent with
the contents of the National Ski Patrol's Outdoor Emergency Care Course.
These services shall be applied according to Lake County EMS Protocols.
A Basic Patroller (or above) must be capable of skiing or riding a
snowboard to any location within the boundaries of the lift serviced
area to provide service to a patron. They must also be able to handle a
loaded toboggan on any trail or location.
All Patrol personnel are responsible for clean up and snow shoveling
in designated areas, boundary maintenance, hazard marking and mitigation
and general hill maintenance and clean-up.
Designated Patrollers will do accident investigation and operate
snowmobiles.
All members of the Patrol must attend annual refreshers required to
maintain OEC, CPR, toboggan handling (if required by their level) and
lift evacuation certification. Additionally, there will be required
ongoing training throughout the ski season at Cooper to insure that the
skills are maintained.
Each member of the Patrol must recognize that there are inherent
risks involved in patrolling. These include, but are not limited to,
traumatic injury, contraction of serious diseases, exposure to
litigation, injury due to weather, high altitude and other natural
conditions and occurrences, etc. Patrollers that maintain a healthy
life-style and stay in good physical condition can significantly reduce
these risks. Strict adherence to approved policies and procedures will
also reduce these risks.
